How to stop Depop training AI on your data
What the policy itself says, plan by plan. Where Depop publishes the steps, they're here in its own words, read from an archived copy of the page that gives them. Where it doesn't, this page says so instead of inventing a menu path.
All accounts
"Train" doesn't appear in this policy in any form, and neither does "artificial intelligence". "Machine learning" appears exactly once, quoted below, and it describes a tool used to catch fraud and spam, not anything built from your data. Depop holds listings, messages, photographs and location, and the document is precise about using them to detect abuse and to run recommendations. On whether any of it reaches a model it's silent. One thing it isn't silent about is the price of leaving the recommender: "If you do not want us to use your data to do this, you must close your Depop account and cease using our Service." That's a clear answer to a different question. Effective 3 September 2023, and unchanged since. The help centre, read on 23 September 2026, has the same shape. Its page on ranking says "Our recommendation systems learn your interests quickly from the listings you view, like, add to bag, and buy." A system that learns from your activity, described without the word train, and no setting beyond your interests and sizes. Depop is being written to.
