How to stop eBay training AI on your data

What the policy itself says, plan by plan. Where eBay publishes the steps, they're here in its own words, read from an archived copy of the page that gives them. Where it doesn't, this page says so instead of inventing a menu path.

EEA, UK and Swiss accounts

Where eBay says the switch is, in its own words. Each list is read from a dated, archived copy of the page it links to. Menus move. If a step is out of date, tell us at the foot of this page.

Account settings (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
  1. Sign in and open My eBay, then Account, then "AI development and training preferences" (accountsettings.ebay.com/ai-preferences).
  2. Switch "Use personal data for AI development and training" from Yes to No.
"Your rights also include the right to object - opens in new window or tab to our processing of your personal data for AI development and training purposes."

The page says it is intended for users in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and that the setting can be changed at any time. It sits behind a login, so we read it on a signed-in account rather than from an archive.

The clause the switch answers

"Where permitted under applicable law, we use personal data collected from our users to train, test, validate, and align our own AI models as well as third-party AI models and systems that we use for the purposes outlined in this User Privacy Notice."

Other accounts

The route eBay gives, in its own words. There's no switch, so this is a request it has said it will act on. Each list is read from a dated, archived copy of the page it links to. If the address or form has moved, tell us at the foot of this page.

Privacy Center
  1. Open the eBay Privacy Center's contact page, ebayinc.com/company/privacy-center/privacy-contact/, and submit a request.
  2. Say you object to the use of your personal data for AI development and training, the right the notice extends by name.
"Your rights also include the right to object - opens in new window or tab to our processing of your personal data for AI development and training purposes."

If your account is in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, the switch above is the faster route; the notice gives everyone else this one.
