Does Waze train on your data?
Waze's policy never mentions training, models or AI. Your routes go "to improve the Services or to develop new features" and to Google's maps, but whether any of that trains a model is not stated.
Waze's privacy policy, 214 paragraphs captured on 7 September 2026 from the Google Help Center page that waze.com/legal/privacy redirects to, does not contain the word "train", "model", "machine learning" or "artificial intelligence" anywhere. What it does say is that Waze uses your information "to improve the Services or to develop new features or services", with route data improving "the accuracy of its mapping and navigation data", and that as "a Google-owned entity" it shares de-identified account, location and route data with Google's mapping products "to develop, maintain or improve" their maps. Improving a map from routes is not training a model, and the policy never says which it means. Your Google Account is governed by Google's own policy; your Waze data is governed by this one, which is silent. The data controller is Waze Mobile Ltd in Tel Aviv, and the policy names in-app Privacy Settings and a right to object, but for a purpose it does not state there is nothing to switch off.

None of the seven terms appears in the document. The nearest language is "improve the Services or to develop new features or services" and, for Google affiliates, "to develop, maintain or improve Waze and/or Google's maps, speeds and closures information".

How to opt out of Waze AI training
Plan by plan, from what Waze's own policy says about refusing. Where it publishes the steps, they're listed here with the limits they carry. Where there's nothing to switch off, or nothing graded, this says so instead of inventing a menu path.

Not graded, so no route is pointed at. What this policy has done since we started watching
The record starts here. Waze's policy was first captured on 7 Sept 2026, and there's no earlier copy to compare it against, so this verdict has no history behind it yet. From now on every re-read is diffed against that copy, and anything that moves appears here.

Vendor response
We wrote to Waze on 15 Sept 2026, quoting the clauses above and inviting a correction. Nothing has come back. That's published because a company declining to comment on its own policy is something a reader should know, and because the invitation should be on the record whether or not it's taken up. Any reply goes here, word for word.
