How to stop Threads training AI on your data

What the policy itself says, plan by plan. Where Threads publishes the steps, they're here in its own words, read from an archived copy of the page that gives them. Where it doesn't, this page says so instead of inventing a menu path.

UK accounts

The route Threads gives, in its own words. There's no switch, so this is a request it has said it will act on. Each list is read from a dated, archived copy of the page it links to. If the address or form has moved, tell us at the foot of this page.

Facebook, Instagram or Meta account (objection form)
  1. Log in to the account you use with AI at Meta.
  2. Open facebook.com/privacy/genai/ and, under "You have rights related to how your information is used for AI at Meta", follow the link for your account to the objection form.
  3. Submit the objection. Meta emails a confirmation; an objection made after a training run has started applies to future runs.
"You can submit an objection request through your Facebook, Instagram or Meta account."

The clause this answers

"In our interest, and in the interests of users and third parties, to develop and improve artificial intelligence technology while ensuring appropriate safeguards, such as improving model responses for safety and accuracy."

US accounts

The Threads supplement is the same everywhere and says nothing about training. The governing document differs by where it is read: the Meta Privacy Policy's US-served text, as captured by the Internet Archive on 1 June 2026, lists interactions with AI at Meta among the information collected and names no AI-development purpose. Whether it now says what the UK text says is not something this site can read from here, so US accounts stay unresolved, as they do in the Meta entry.

Did a step here not work, or does Threads offer a control this page doesn't mention? Tell us and we'll correct it.
