Does 1Password train on your data?

1Password states it is unable to decrypt your Secure Data. The vault is out of reach — but everything outside it is another matter, and the policy does use the word "training".

How we read it: The clause appears in a section about exporting your own data: 1Password is explaining why it cannot hand you a decrypted copy even when you ask. The A rests on the vault alone. Outside it the policy says two things. "We may use your communications with us for training and quality assurance" reads as support-quality work. And, under legitimate interests, "we process your Contact Information, Service Data, and Diagnostic Data, to develop and train new technology" — three categories that are not the vault, a verb that is train, and an object that is not called a model. The route out of that is the right to object to legitimate-interest processing, by contacting 1Password.

How to opt out of 1Password AI training

Plan by plan, from what 1Password's own policy says about refusing. Where it publishes the steps, they're listed here with the limits they carry. Where there's nothing to switch off, or nothing graded, this says so instead of inventing a menu path.

All plans

There is nothing to opt out of. 1Password's own policy says it can't reach the content, so training on it isn't something a setting controls.

1 CAPTURE SINCE 18 AUG 2026

The record starts here. 1Password's policy was first captured on 18 Aug 2026, and there's no earlier copy to compare it against, so this verdict has no history behind it yet. From now on every re-read is diffed against that copy, and anything that moves appears here.
