Does Babbel train on your data?
Babbel trains its AI on learner data under legitimate interest; anonymised support chats train its "Bab" chatbot. The only carve-out, for chatbot conversations, covers business contacts, not learners.
No opt-out found in this policy

How we read it: Legitimate interest, not consent, so this runs unless a reader objects; the policy names a right to object only for direct marketing and profiling, gives privacy@babbel.com (section 8) for data-subject rights, and has no setting. Two things are narrower than they read. Voice recordings are used "in anonymized form for training purposes" rather than raw. And the one explicit carve-out — "Your interactions with our chatbot will not be used in order to train the AI system" — is section 2.4.2, about contact persons at business customers writing to "Babbel Bot". For learners, section 2.1.6 says the opposite: support communication is anonymised "for training our AI model for the "Bab" chatbot".

How to opt out of Babbel AI training
Plan by plan, from what Babbel's own policy says about refusing. Where it publishes the steps, they're listed here with the limits they carry. Where there's nothing to switch off, or nothing graded, this says so instead of inventing a menu path.

No opt-out is stated in the policy on file for Babbel.
What this policy has done since we started watching
The record starts here. Babbel's policy was first captured on 30 Aug 2026, and there's no earlier copy to compare it against, so this verdict has no history behind it yet. From now on every re-read is diffed against that copy, and anything that moves appears here.

Vendor response
We wrote to Babbel on 31 Aug 2026, quoting the clauses above and inviting a correction. Nothing has come back. That's published because a company declining to comment on its own policy is something a reader should know, and because the invitation should be on the record whether or not it's taken up. Any reply goes here, word for word.
