Does Backblaze train on your data?
Backblaze backs up entire hard drives. Its privacy policy contains no reference to AI, machine learning or training.
Backblaze's product copies whole machines, which makes it the holder of everything on them. Its privacy policy contains no form of "train", no "machine learning", no "artificial intelligence" and no bare "AI", and no statement about whether it can read what it stores. It does say why. "This Privacy Notice, as stated at the outset, only applies to the information collected in respect of your account and not to the content that you store on our system", and for that content "Backblaze is the processor and the person or organization owning the Backblaze account is the controller". The document scopes your files out of itself rather than answering for them — a structural absence, not an oversight — which is why the question of what Backblaze can do with what it stores has no home in this notice at all.

How to opt out of Backblaze AI training
Plan by plan, from what Backblaze's own policy says about refusing. Where it publishes the steps, they're listed here with the limits they carry. Where there's nothing to switch off, or nothing graded, this says so instead of inventing a menu path.

What this policy has done since we started watching
The record starts here. Backblaze's policy was first captured on 30 Aug 2026, and there's no earlier copy to compare it against, so this verdict has no history behind it yet. From now on every re-read is diffed against that copy, and anything that moves appears here.
