Does Intercom train on your data?
Intercom's security page says Fin fine-tunes on anonymised customer data and that you can opt out at any time, without saying where. Third-party model providers are contractually barred from training.
"Fin can use anonymized customer data for model fine-tuning, and you can opt out at any time, with data deleted within 30 days."

How we read it: Re-graded from UNCLEAR on the security page, undated, and the Additional Product Terms effective 18 March 2026. The terms bind only the third parties: "Intercom contractually restricts Third Party AI Providers from using Customer Data for training or otherwise improving Third Party AI Provider's services." Intercom's own fine-tuning is on the security page, twice, with an opt-out "at any time" and deletion within 30 days, but no setting, form or address for it; the help centre defers to a guide behind a login. Scored as a request route because the company says there is one and does not publish it; medium confidence for the same reason. De-identification is stated: "anonymized".
opt out, opt-out, settings, request, train, default
What the document does offer
- on the security page: "you can opt out at any time, with data deleted within 30 days" and "you can opt out of fine-tuning anytime"; no location for either
- in the Additional Product Terms: "Intercom contractually restricts Third Party AI Providers from using Customer Data for training or otherwise improving Third Party AI Provider's services."
- in the Fin FAQ help article: a reference to a "legal and security guide for AI Products/Features" behind a login
- "default": 0 matches on the security page
Why none of it applies: A way out is asserted twice and located nowhere: no setting is named, no form linked, no address given, and the one document that might explain it is not public. By this site's precedent a route the company says exists but does not publish scores as a request, not a switch. The third-party bar is contractual and in the terms; Intercom's own use is described only on a marketing page.

How to opt out of Intercom AI training
Plan by plan, from what Intercom's own policy says about refusing. Where it publishes the steps, they're listed here with the limits they carry. Where there's nothing to switch off, or nothing graded, this says so instead of inventing a menu path.

Vendor response
We wrote to Intercom on 16 Sept 2026, quoting the clauses above and inviting a correction. Nothing has come back. That's published because a company declining to comment on its own policy is something a reader should know, and because the invitation should be on the record whether or not it's taken up. Any reply goes here, word for word.
