Does Fathom train on your data?

Fathom trains its own AI on de-identified meeting data, says so plainly, puts the switch in your account settings, and refuses OpenAI, Anthropic and Google the same data.

How we read it: A C rather than a D for one reason: the switch is named and located — "You can opt out from this use of your data in your account settings" — where eight companies on /patterns name a control and never say where it lives or which way it ships. The de-identification is stated flatly rather than hedged with "where possible". And the sentence that follows is rarer still: third parties are named, and refused. Fathom "does not authorize" OpenAI, Anthropic or Google to train on meeting content, which is a commitment about the companies most likely to end up holding it. What keeps this from being better is the default: the opt-out exists because the training is on until you use it.

How to opt out of Fathom AI training

Plan by plan, from what Fathom's own policy says about refusing. Where it publishes the steps, they're listed here with the limits they carry. Where there's nothing to switch off, or nothing graded, this says so instead of inventing a menu path.

All plans

Yes. Fathom has a self-serve setting.

Account settings
  1. Open your account settings (Fathom's Trust Center calls them User Settings, at fathom.video/customize).
  2. Turn off the use of your data to improve Fathom's models.

Fathom doesn't name the toggle. Its Trust Center says Organization Settings can switch it off for every user on Team Edition.

Organization Settings (Team Edition)
  1. An organisation admin opens Organization Settings.
  2. Opt out every user on the account there; the Trust Center says this covers all users.

The same FAQ answer says the use is of de-identified customer data and that the AI sub-processors (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) are contractually barred from training on it.

2 CAPTURES SINCE 30 AUG 2026

The record starts here. Fathom's 2 documents were first captured on 30 Aug 2026, and there's no earlier copy to compare them against, so this verdict has no history behind it yet. From now on every re-read is diffed against those copies, and anything that moves appears here.
