Does Grammarly train on your data?
Grammarly trains AI models on your content by default, with a control in account settings. The policy is now published by Superhuman Platform Inc., formerly Grammarly.
A self-serve opt-out exists
"You can decide whether Superhuman can use your user content to train our AI models by adjusting the available training control(s) in your account settings."

How we read it: The entity renamed: grammarly.com/privacy-policy now serves the privacy policy of Superhuman Platform Inc. (formerly Grammarly), covering Grammarly, Docs (formerly Coda) and Superhuman products under one document. The training control is described as living in account settings. The policy states separately that content from accounts managed by an organisation falls outside it entirely.

What the document does offer
- "You can decide whether Superhuman can use your user content to train our AI models by adjusting the available training control(s) in your account settings"
- "We do not use your user content for marketing or advertising purposes"
- the targeted-advertising opt-out, conditioned: "depending on where you live, we may require your consent or you may be able to opt out of such activities"
- "default" appears zero times in the capture
Why none of it applies: A named training control in account settings, free and on every plan, which is the C shape. It fails the same test as Figma and Cursor: the document never says which way it ships, and "default" does not appear in it at all. Worth noting the entity — this policy speaks as Superhuman throughout, and is the document Grammarly now serves.
What each plan can refuse

How to opt out of Grammarly AI training
Plan by plan, from what Grammarly's own policy says about refusing. Where it publishes the steps, they're listed here with the limits they carry. Where there's nothing to switch off, or nothing graded, this says so instead of inventing a menu path.
Free & Premium (individual accounts)
Yes. Grammarly has a self-serve setting.
- Go to account.grammarly.com/security/privacy.
- Click the "Product Improvement and Training" toggle to switch it off.
On by default for individual accounts. On a single-user Pro account the same toggle is at account.grammarly.com/admin/data_settings.
What this policy has done since we started watching
No change detected. We've held a copy of Grammarly's documents since 13 Aug 2026 and re-read them since, across 3 captures of 2 documents. The text hasn't moved in a way that touches this verdict. That's a fact about the documents, and it's only knowable by having kept the earlier copies.
Vendor response
We wrote to Grammarly on 27 Aug 2026, quoting the clauses above and inviting a correction. Nothing has come back. That's published because a company declining to comment on its own policy is something a reader should know, and because the invitation should be on the record whether or not it's taken up. Any reply goes here, word for word.
